CIRCUITO TRE CALLI

Pleasant “climb” to the M. Three Calli group, part of a circuit leading back to the starting point. The path requires, especially in the first part, a good deal of physical effort, which is amply repaid upon reaching the summit by an enchanting 360 degree view of the Gulf of Salerno, Sorrento, Capri, the basin of Agerola and of the other peaks of M. Lattari chain.

Path information

From Piazza Paolo Capasso (Bomerano) take Tommaso Mannini street and, after about 300 meters, at a crossroads, turn left. After 200 meters, just after a left bend, take the staircase to your right that goes up between houses and cultivated terraces ( Pendola area. Your will reach the road that climbs to Paipo, follow it to the left, and after two turns you get to a Crucifix. Here, take the trail on the right. After about 1 km uphill after a cemented path at the height of a house / flock, the trail becomes less obvious and goes through the vegetation. This section of the path has visible signs on rock tree trunks and wooden steps sometimes uneven and hard. Once on the ridge, follow it to the left to the top of the southern most peak of Tre Calli (1122 m), beautifully overlooking the coast, then go back and retrace your steps, past the point of arrival at the ridge, and head north along the clearly visible summit path.

Go past M. Calavrice(1145 m) and slightly down- reach the saddle of Capo Muro (1072 m), above which rises the pyramidal mass of M. S. Angelo a Tre Pizzi. From here you can take the Path 4, to climb up the middle peak.

For the return, as well as the way yoi climbed up we can go down to the Paipo Casino taking, in a southerly direction, the path visible on the left of the unmistakable “mushroom rock” of Capo Muro, The steep stony descent leads to a dirt road path that must be followed to the left. Arrived at Paipo Casino, continue along the same road (from here on asphalt) traveled in the first leg, until you reach the Pendola staircase, and thus Piazza Capasso.

Values and points of interest

This path has its principal merit in the great panoramic views it affords. During the initial climb to Three Calli, the eye sweeps over the entire agerolese basin, the eastern part of the Amali Coast (including its mountains) and the Gulf of Salerno, with the Picentini, Alburni and Cilento mountains silhouettes beyond the sea.

At the top suddenly a fantastic panorama meets your eyes, a new view of Positano and its blue bay, the small archipelago of Li Galli (or Sirenuse), all the Sorrento Peninsula (with its southern side that runs to the sea with spectacular cliffs) and the island of Capri with its faraglioni islands. Naples is covered by the bulk of the tre Pizzi, but behind the hills of Vico Equense is Ischia, all alone in the waters of the Gulf of Naples. Looking out from the top of the southernmost Tre Calli peak (1122m), you dominate from high above the verdant Praia valley and the promontory of Praiano and Vettica Maggiore. Approaching Capo Muro, you face the southern edge of the bare and layered M. Catello, which looks almost like an Egyptian pyramid. Down at the Paipo Casino, as well as the views of the coast, the gaze is drawn to the rocky walls and towers which culminate with the various peaks of M. S. Angelo a Tre Pizzi.

The rocks on which you are walking initially (Pendola)

and later(Paipo) are made by slope debris

cemented at the end of the Pliocene. Identical in nature are the rocks that you have seen (from afar) on the side of the spur of Li Galli field, above Nocella. Above the 800-850 m altitude you walk instead on dolomitic limestone from the upper Jurassic, blackish in color since they were born from sludge of lagoons rich in decomposed organic remains.

In terms of vegetation, especially on the path you find chestnut coppice and mixed woods on the sub-montane horizon (see par. 2.3), but the sunny slopes with Sand SW exposure also allow Holm to grow at an unusual altitude.
