PARCO COLONIA MONTANA

The stupendous panorama of the Amalfi Coast intensifies the view along the slightly uphill lane that, from Piazza General Avitabile, leads to the entrance of Colonia Montana’s Park. Three hectares of green park sited like a terrace on the Coast and from which one can admire the whole Agerola, with Mount Tre Pizzi dooming over it. The belvedere is located at the spot where General Avitabile’s palace stood, on whose ruins the Colonia Montana “Principe di Napoli” was built between 1937 and 1939, used as a summer colony for youth under the fascist regime, in the shadow of two imposing works of art by the famous futurist sculptor Eros Pellini, the Royal Air Force and the Alpine corps. Suggestive is the spot, behind the former Infirmary structure, from which the Fjord of Furore  is visible, a narrow stretch of water set at the mouth of an overhanging gorge created by the incessant work of the Schiato stream that runs down the mountain from Agerola until it plunges into the sea.

The Campus Principe di Napoli was established in 2019 from the transformation of the former Colonia Montana estate into a high center for university learning and specialization.

Pride, sweat and dedication have made it possible to breathe new life into this place and create an institution capable of redeeming the entire region.
