Agerola is a land rich in ancient and genuine traditions that represent its unique and special culture, these are embellished by a wide-ranging panorama that has been, and always is, a source of inspiration for all the arts. The land of the Gods, in fact, expresses the authenticity of Campania’s cultural heritage, through the will and dreams of men who have collected and preserved throughout a lifetime memories, which illustrate deep down, a bygone era, but still relevant today. Agerola is the land that smells of must, chestnuts and cheese, of wood for burning or working, where the glitter of iron wrought by skilled hands or the warmth of the kitchen always makes you feel at home … coveted destination even after a long journey, where everything is poetry! Here we find several historic buildings such as La casa della corte, a building dating back to 1461, which now houses the Museo Civico, home to a very important archaeological section and a peasant memory. The museum is also a showcase of art galleries and exhibitions of famous Campanian artists, from painting to sculpture to photography. In the land of the gods, pearls of art and traditions are revealed to be discovered. An ideal place for vacations, not only because of the great charm of the landscape, but also because of the presence of the Festival “On the Paths of the Gods,” which from July to September gives a continuum of remarkable encounters from music to theater, from culinary art to craft creations … event not to be missed!
CHIESA SAN MICHELE ARCANGELO
The church dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel was built in 1680 by Antonio de Acampora, who reserved for himself and his inheritors, burial in the pit erected at his own expense in the floor, as evidenced by the marble plaque affixed to the closure.
CHIESA SANTISSIMA ANNUNZIATA
Located in the square named after General Avitabile, it elegantly closes, with its sober facade, the backstage that corners the ancient entrance to the stables of General Avitabile's castle.
CHIESA SAN PIETRO APOSTOLO
The ancient church dedicated to St. Peter origin cannot be traced because we have no documents regarding its foundation The historian Matteo Camera states that Agerola's municipal administration assemblies were held in the churchyard of in ancient. Some historical documents, though, suggest that it already existed in the 12th century under Frederick II of Swabia.
CHIESA SAN NICOLA DI BARI
The original church is living testimony of the ancient origin of a site whose very name was symbolic of its location. Ponte was the hamlet that, placed the center of Agerola served as a junction and connection for the four hamlets: Pianillo, Campora, Bomerano, and San Lazzaro. The church, the only one in the hamlet, was elevated to parish status following incessant requests from the worshippers, in November 1644. The church originally, with its present portico, constituted "a short tunnel" under which passed Via Ponte that connected the hamlets of Agerola. Later, the new road that now skirts the portico was built and made the sacred building independent. It suffered extensive damage with the 1980 earthquake event and therefore underwent renovation work before being reopened for worship.
CHIESA SANTA MARIA LA MANNA
Built in the 13th century, it has been renovated several times over the years and having suffered considerable damage with the 1980 earthquake event, it remained closed for a long time. Subsequently with the intervention of the Government, the Superintendence of Historical Heritage of Naples and the faithful of the hamlet, the church was restored and reopened for worship on August 14, 1999. CHIESA SANTA MARIA A MIANO
S. Maria church in Miano, where Our Lady of Purity is venerated, dates back to the 1700s, when it was profoundly restored on an ancient building dating to the 1300s, founded by the Sasso family from Scala the same to which Blessed Gerardo Sasso, founder of the order of the Hospitallers, later called Knights of Malta, belonged. It is currently a lay church owned by the Municipality of Agerola.
